Chassis

  • CHASSIS AND ERGONOMICS: The lowering of the vehicle also meant that the centre of gravity is lower, allowing the rider greater confidence during low speed manoeuvres, especially with a passenger and panniers. However, the restriction of the wheel travel has not limited the bike's off-road performance thanks to the Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evo system, which, with its electronic management of the fork and shock absorber hydraulics, lets you tackle any type of terrain with maximum safety and control. The ergonomic triangle – the relative position of the seat, footpegs and handlebars – was also redesigned, reducing the handlebar height by 30 mm to improve riding comfort and to ensure a relaxed and natural position during long rides on the motorway. In addition to lowering the handlebars, the surfaces of the tank were modified for a better fit with the electric blocks during steering.
  • DUCATI SKYHOOK SUSPENSION EVO (DSS): The DSS Evo system acts continuously to guarantee the perfect balance of the vehicle in all road and load conditions, providing both rider and passenger with maximum comfort. The DSS Evo system makes it possible to vary the bike's setup in a practical, intuitive and quick manner using the HMI interface, to have the ideal suspension in any conditions. Simply select the riding mode – Touring, Sport, Urban or Enduro – and the load condition – single rider, rider with panniers, rider with passenger and rider with passenger and panniers. Moreover, it is also possible to act separately on the fork and on the shock absorber to make a fine adjustment of the front and rear suspension without the need for complicated settings. The system configuration possibilities are almost unlimited and there are up to 400 combinations of the parameters that can be electronically selected by the rider via the interface.

Engine

  • TESTASTRETTA DVT 1262: In fact, 85% of the torque is already available below 3,500 rpm with a 17% increase in the curve at 5,500 rpm compared to the previous 1198 cm³ displacement model. This makes the Multistrada 1260 Enduro the motorcycle with the highest torque value in its category, an exceptional 4,000 rpm, i.e. the rpm rate used when riding. To reach this displacement level, the piston stroke was increased from 67.9 to 71.5 mm, while the bore remains 106 mm. To change this measurement connecting rods, a crankshaft and cylinders were used. The DVT system was then recalibrated to maximise mid to low range engine torque delivery, leading to a maximum power of 158 hp at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13 kgm at 7,500 rpm.
  • DUCATI QUICKSHIFT (DQS): The system works both when upshifting, for full throttle racing accelerations, and downshifting, with the reduction being more fluid thanks to the "blipper" that harmonises the engine's revolutions with the rotation speed of the primary shaft to avoid jamming, all supported by a clutch with anti-hop system.
  • DESMODROMIC VARIABLE TIMING (DVT): The Ducati Testrastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine, which varies both the timing of the camshaft that controls the intake valves, and the camshaft that controls the exhaust valves independently, optimises performance at high speeds to achieve maximum power, while improving smooth delivery and increasing torque at low and medium range speeds. This means you have an engine that changes its characteristics by continuously varying the rpm without the rider even noticing it, remaining within the Euro 4 approval requirements while paying great attention to fuel consumption.

Equipment

  • DUCATI TRACTION CONTROL (DTC): In the space of a few thousandths of a second, DTC is able to detect and subsequently control the sliding of the rear wheel, helping to considerably increase the bike's performance and safety. The system offers eight different settings to choose from. Each of them has been programmed to offer a tolerance to rear slippage commensurate with progressive levels of riding ability (classified from 1 to 8). Levels 1 and 2 are specific for off-road riding and allow the rear tyre to slip in a manner appropriate for that terrain. Levels 3 to 6 are designed to offer the best grip on dry asphalt, while levels 7 and 8 are designed to offer maximum grip on wet asphalt. On the Multistrada 1260 Enduro the DTC is built into the Riding Modes. The DTC levels are programmed in the factory for the four Riding Modes, but they can be customised according to the rider's characteristics and saved from the setup menu.
  • DUCATI WHEELIE CONTROL (DWC): Adjustable on eight levels, the system analyses the position of the bike (wheelie) and consequently manages torque and power to guarantee maximum acceleration in safety without misalignments. Like the DTC, it has eight levels and has been incorporated in the Riding Modes.
  • VEHICLE HOLD CONTROL (VHC): The system offers the rider a more comfortable and safe uphill start, leaving only the throttle and the clutch to be managed. This feature is activated when the motorcycle is at a standstill with the side stand retracted, and the rider applies high pressure to the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal. When activated, and depending on the vehicle status, the system calculates and applies a pressure on the rear braking system of the vehicle using the pump and valves of the ABS control unit. A pilot light indicates when the system is enabled, and can be activated at all ABS levels except when the ABS is off. The same pilot light will start to flash when the system is going to release the rear brake pressure thus ceasing to hold the vehicle still: the decrease in pressure will be gradual.

Safety

  • BOSCH ABS CORNERING: Bosch ABS Cornering ABS Cornering exploits Bosch's six-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform to maximise balancing of the braking power delivered to the front and rear wheels even in critical situations and with the motorcycle in a leaning position. By interacting with the Riding Modes, the system is able to provide the ideal solution for every situation and riding condition. Thanks to an ABS control processor, Multistrada 1260 Enduro boasts a front and rear Electronic Combined Braking System, optimised for Urban and Touring Riding Modes, but with reduced action in Sport mode, a context where preference is given to non-fully automated control. The combined braking system increases braking stability by using four pressure gauges, to best distribute the braking power between the front and rear wheels. Conceived to improve rear tyre control in abrupt braking situations, the "lift-up prevention" function of the ABS system is fully enabled in Urban and Touring Riding Modes, while it is deactivated for use in Sport and Enduro mode. The ABS function is also available for front brakes only, a feature that Multistrada exploits in the Enduro Riding Mode in order to allow rear drifts when braking on bumpy ground. The system integrates perfectly with the Ducati Riding Modes and interacts on three different levels. Level 1 offers the highest performance for off-road use, eliminating rear lift-up detection and allowing the drift during braking with the ABS applied to the front only. Level 2 ensures the balance between the front and rear without the rear wheel lift-up detection when riding in Sport mode, but with the cornering feature enabled and calibrated for a sporting character riding style, level 3 allows optimisation of the combined braking action in the Touring and Urban modes with rear wheel lift-up detection and the cornering feature enabled and calibrated for ultimate safety.
